Border Bike Trip, Day 28: Rolling in the Rain
Grant Wishard | www.weeklystandard.com
There hasn’t been a drop of rain on this entire trip, but I woke up in Rio Grande City to find sheets of water coming out of the sky. South Texas’s prayers have been answered. Cattle ranches won’t have to sell off cows, and all the onions, cabbage, and corn I’ve passed will make it from farm to fork.
Bags packed, I pedaled 100 yards from my motel to the Denny’s next door. I used to hate Denny’s before taking off on this bike trip, but that was back when I had standards, rules, and best practices concerning the …

Saturday April 14, 2018, 142 km (88 miles) – Total so far: 2,284 km (1,419 miles)
We made today’s destination dependent on the weather. Worst case, we stop in Langtry and the community center. Better option to ride on for twenty miles and camp at Seminole Canyon State Park. And here we are in Comstock. It was a hot, windy, and hilly day but the winds were in our favor and we decided to push on to Comstock. We had called ahead and managed to get the last room. ‪At 7 pm‬ it’s still 35C and the wind is blowing. Good choice to stay at the motel which is new, very nice, and …
