Oh How I Love 72 Degrees Bike Ride
Warmer weather today exceeding the forecast actually with 71 degrees at the start of the bike ride (12:19 pm) “jumping” to 72 by the time I finished at 2:57 pm. The lunar eclipse might have set the stage for the warmer riding weather. Ha Ha. I downsized my wardrobe to shorts, long sleeve jersey (not a thermal one), wind breaker jacket and regular gloves.
Riding north on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route the strong wind (from the south at 9 mph with 18 mph gusts) pushed to Tavola. I knew the ride back to the south would be tough from the times when the route pointed back south before the turn around at Tavola. It lived up to it billing.
I should have geared down for the ride south but I stayed in the same gear combination (39 x 13) biking back to the south grinding out the rpm’s. Watching the power on the Elemnt I saw my speed go down and the watts go up, frequently in the 200 to 300 range.
My goal for January was 300 miles but I fell short coming in at 212 road miles. I rode the indoor trainer 138 miles for a total of 350 miles. The weather was not kind to my outdoor riding but I bought a Cycleops Fluid Trainer to replace the 18 year old Cycleops Wind Trainer. The fluid trainer is much quieter and makes for a good workout.
Weather forecast for Thursday calls for 75 degrees but I will not be able to take advantage of it. Friday is back to the cold so more indoor riding.
