A DAY WITH BIG ROB & SANTANA IN AUSTIN, TEXAS
by Josh Babu | www.ridebmx.com
Spend a day cruising the city with Austin OG’s Big Rob and Santana in this new video from Josh Babu and Empire. These dudes have been staples in the ATX BMX scene forever and are still out in the streets, at the dirt jumps and on their bikes every day. This video is a pretty accurate representation of what you can get into on an average day in Austin …
Automated route generation for bicycle tours of the United States
Payne, Katherine Carl | search.proquest.com
ABSTRACT
Planning a multi-day bicycle tour is a time intensive and difficult task. To enable cyclists to construct their own multi-day tour routes, we propose an automated system which, given an origin, destination, and points of interest, generates detailed bicycle tour routes of minimal perceived exertion. This dissertation is comprised of three bodies of work contained in chapters 2, 3, and 4, respectively. In the first work– chapter 2, we build and test a model of the perceived exertion of different categories of cyclists on a daily path within a long bicycle tour. We first propose an additive formula for calculating the perceived exertion of cyclists on component parts of a …

Weekend Bike Ride Coldspring, TX
Scott P | www.bikeforums.net
I did the ride in Coldspring with our MS150 team It was damp, foggy, cool and even a bit rainy at spots. Hills are not fun in the wetness, especially being the first ride of the year. Hills are tougher and people are on the brakes more going down the wet hills. At the first stop, we were wet, a bit tired already and the road was covered in gravel and it was bumpy. We decided on the 25 mile route. The weather had cleared up a bit by the second rest stop, but were were all still feeling it. It was only about 15 miles at that point, but it felt like 25. I think a couple of us could have done the 32 mile route, but that last will would have been tough. In hindsight, I should have done the longer route. As soon as I hit the dirt parking lot, I heard air escaping from my front tire. It was flat by the time I had my bike leaning against my truck. I picked up a small piece of glass in the middle of the tire. I patched the tire at home and installed a new tube. I’m ordering a new pair of Continentals today as these Michelins are worn out after just one season. I had to give my bike a good washing too as it was covered in dirt. I even tossed on a coat of wax (actually a sealant) while I was at it.
It was my first time doing this ride. It was organized fairly well. Parking was a bit tough and more signage would have been nice. It was a nice bonus to have the girls of the dance team offer to hold our bikes while we snacked or used the too few port a potties.
The Humble Lions Club ride is in three weeks. A nice, long flat ride with one pass over the Bridge of Death. I just home it is better organized this year than it was last year. …
Med Center projects aimed at bikes, pedestrians
By Bruce Selcraig | www.expressnews.com
The city broke ground Tuesday on two infrastructure projects in the South Texas Medical Center area that public officials hope will inch San Antonio toward becoming a more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly city.
District 8 Councilman Manny Pelaez and members of the Medical Center Alliance, among others, grabbed a dozen shovels beneath some spindly live …
