The new central library in Austin is set to finally open next week, as is the path that takes pedestrians and cyclists under Cesar Chavez and connects to the old train bridge over Shoal Creek from West to Rio Grande. Bicycle riders participating in the 2017 Livestrong Challenge negotiate rain slick roads through downtown Austin on Sunday as early thunderstorms made conditions slippery. The riders from around the country chose 20-, 45-, 65- or 100-mile bike rides to raise money to reach the fundraising goal of $1 million to benefit the Cancer Institutes of the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas. Clear, cool weather allows thousands to roll through Broadway at SÃclovÃa

Some bikers sped down Broadway wearing skin-tight cycling jerseys and black compression shorts, their faces and bodies damp with sweat. Others leisurely pedaled as their collared shirts and cargo pants rippled with the breeze.
On some bikes, corgis, terriers and other small dogs rode in mesh baskets as their owners chauffeured them down the San Antonio thoroughfare.
