Two Jersey Bike Ride
Today was a two jersey bike ride. Overnight a “cool” front arrived dropping the temperature to 59 when I got up this morning. When I went to get the newspaper a brave lady was bicycling on Woodbridge Drive pulling a trailer. As she passed she asked me if there was a sidewalk at the intersection ahead and I said yes. I hope the extra effort pulling the trailer provided body heat to offset the chilly weather.
Later after waiting and going to the post office I left (11:33 AM) glad that it had warmed up to 71 degrees. I chose the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route going to the south and east for a couple of reasons: easy to get on the route, I planned on riding 30+ miles. I ended up biking 31.8 miles. Wearing the two jerseys I was comfortable but not overly warm. The blue sky and cool temperature kept me from overheating which was quite different from Saturday’s ride around Conroe. The wind today though was much stronger: from the north at 18 mph with 24 mph gusts. This made for tough pedaling on some sections of the ride: biking east over Lake Houston, north on FM 2100. But when the wind was not fighting me I made good time getting my overall average speed up to 14.3 mph at several points. Today’s route was not lumpy like Saturday’s and not bicycling yesterday gave my legs time to recover. Good thing with the strong wind today. Power output jumped up today because of the wind: average 100 watts, 401 watts maximum.
The cool weather will hang around tomorrow but I plan on biking.
