Long Sleeve Jersey September Cool Front Bike Ride
When I got up this morning and went into the breakfast area I thought I had been time shifted to the middle of October instead of September 6th. During the night a cool front passed through dropping .19″ of rain and the temperature to 69 degrees. By the time I was ready to leave for the bike ride it had “jumped” up to 72 degrees and I opted to wear a long sleeve jersey. Walking out the door I could feel the coolness and when I pushed the start button on the Elemnt computer at 9:55 AM and began moving I was glad I made the long sleeve jersey choice. For the first 4 or 5 miles of the ride I felt chilly but the sun made its way through the mostly cloudy sky and it started to warm up some. By the time I finished the ride the sun was shining and the temperature was up to 80 degrees when normally this early in September it would be in the lower 90’s.
With all of the Hurricane Harvey cleanup to the south I chose the “Kingwood-Community Drive-Valley Ranch” route to the north. This is a shorter route than usual with only 27.3 miles. My wife has a doctor appointment at 1:30 and doesn’t like to drive the Jeep Wrangler so I needed to be back home in time to take her.
Not long after I started the ride I glanced down at the Elemnt computer and saw the cadence was not showing up. I checked to see if the sensor was transmitting and it did not show up. Time to change the battery, I guess. Somehow though the Strava data includes cadence average and max; not sure where that came from.
Not much happened along the route until I rode through Valley Ranch and had to wait a minute or so for the Montgomery County Precinct 4 work crew to load up a cut down tree. I don’t know if this was a victim of Harvey or it was just time to fall.
No rest stop today with the time constraint. I could’ve used one from fighting the 12 mph NE wind but once I headed back south it was mostly a tailwind.
