Camp teaches kids with Down syndrome, autism to ride a bike
By Nicole Villalpando | www.mystatesman.com
Inside the pavilion at Dripping Springs Ranch Park, bikes are lined up by size along one wall, just waiting for their riders.
They look like ordinary kids bikes, except these have a handlebar on the back of the seat and an extra rubber wheel on the back.
These two tweaks are how I Can Shine teaches kids with Down syndrome, autism and other physical and …
Video: Busy Bike Shops Ahead of Hotter ‘N Hell
By: Landon McBride | www.texomashomepage.com
With the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred kickoff just a week away, many riders are in condition and ready to ride, but still need to make sure their bikes are too.
Both Endurance House and The Bike Stop say they have plenty of work to do but expect it to get even busier next week.
Riders who are ready to ride still have one important thing to check off before rolling into the long line next week, making sure their bikes are ready too.
“It’s been pretty busy people are bringing in their last-minute tune ups to have their bikes checked over for the big ride,†said Larry Hein from Bike Stop. “Lot of flat tires, so the folks have been training a lot on the …

First human-powered two-wheel device in San Antonio was a velocipede — an early form of bicycle.
By Hugh Hemphill | www.expressnews.com
The first recorded two-wheeled human powered device to appear in the Alamo city was a velocipede built by a man only known as Mr. Muhl in 1869, quite likely using bicycle wheels advertised on the same page of the San Antonio Daily Herald. The velocipede was an early type of bicycle. Sometimes they had no pedals and the rider essentially ran while sitting, raising his feet while going downhill and walking up them. Some had pedals connected directly to the front wheel, like a toddler’s trike today. Regarding Muhl’s achievement, the paper gushed, “Who will hereafter …

Conquer the Coast
Couple of days back, this little event popped up in my news feed on Facebook. It looked interesting enough for me to dig a bit deeper. In short, it’s seems like a fun ride along the coast with some challenging sections.
Their 66 mile route description – “A challenge for even the most seasoned cyclist, this is the course that separates the joy riders from the die-hards. As you make your way over the Harbor Bridge within the first mile, you realize this is no ordinary ride. Once complete, …
