It is never too early to start training, especially if the ride is 80 miles.
I am going to host the first training ride, at the Barton Creek Greenbelt, on Sunday, August 20th.
We will meet at the Zilker trailhead and will follow the full GB route, expect to get your shoes wet at least once when we cross over the creek. Pack something to eat and make sure you have enough water, there are no water stops anywhere on the route. We will roll out at 9AM sharp so plan to be on time, if you get there late you’ll need to catch up to the group.

An incident on Lamar St bike lane today

Background: I ride the bus to my office downtown, and a few days a week I will come in stupidly early and do 25-40 mile rides on the bayou trails before work. After work, I ride back to the bus stop and snooze my way home.
For the unfamiliar: The Lamar Street bike lane is a fascinating contraption. It is a two-way lane that exists on the left side of a one-way street. It is painted bright green; is separated from traffic by Armadillo humps; has many posted signs cautioning drivers to “< LOOK >” for cyclists.
