Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Ride will take Cyclists through Scenic Texas Hill Country on April 1, 2017

Stonewall, Texas – Make plans to pedal your bicycle through the historic LBJ Ranch and along peaceful country roads on Saturday, April 1 during the 10th annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Ride. The bicycle ride will be held rain or shine-unless severe weather looks imminent. If there is a forecast of thunderstorms with a strong likelihood of lightning and heavy rain, the event will be cancelled no later than 5:00 pmon Friday, March 31. The National Park Service established a weather hotline for the LBJ 100 Bicycle Ride at 830-868-7128 ext. 224. Updates will also be posted at nps.gov/lyjo.

Like wildflowers and a little presidential history when you’re out riding a bike?
All three are on tap Saturday at the 10th annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Ride at the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall.
Cyclists can choose from routes of 10, 30, 42 and 62 miles. The ride begins at the historic ranch and continues along quiet country roads.
Riders will pass the historic Texas White House, Lyndon B. Johnson’s birthplace, and the family cemetery where President and Mrs. Johnson are buried. They’ll also see descendants of the president’s Hereford cattle. At 1 p.m., Luci Johnson will …
Blessing of the Bicycles

We will host A Blessing of the Bicycles on Saturday, April 1st at 3:00 p.m. This will be a short, simple gathering to mark spring with an ecumenical bicycle blessing for a safe year. All are encouraged to attend. Bicycles welcome in the sanctuary (but please leave your cleats at the door). A reception will be held after the service to refuel for the ride home.

Departed Ft Clark CG, an old WWII Army base at 0730, proceeding to the Stripes CS for breakfast and snack supplies for the road. A very pleasant day in the saddle with cool temperatures and insignificant W. It was a welcome break to be on roads less traveled and the absence of frequent and loud vehicle traffic.

Head out of town after raiding the local Dollar General for bits and bobs, Into Mountain time ,which GMT -8. Riding on the hard shoulder of the i10 seems wrong, but it was on the maps, no rude Horn sounding so off we went.
The service road was used when available all day. By the time Sierra Blanca arrived I could repair the slow puncture which occurred somewhere, under cover away from the heat.
Into the gas station to clean up & dine on a sandwich,and soda.
