Overcast Bike Ride to Huffman
An overcast sky wasn’t enough to keep me from bicycling today. I need to get more rides in to accomplish my mileage goal for March. Selecting the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route I biked 34.58 miles increasing my month to date to 136.72 miles, 23% of my goal. I started a little earlier than usual for a weekday bike ride at 11:06 and finished at 1:35. I wanted to bicycle earlier to avoid the potential rain later in the afternoon.
Biking went as planned though the 7 mph east wind required some extra effort whenever the terrain exposed me to the wind. No other bicyclists crossed my route.
As I was riding west from Huffman an Atascocita ambulance with flashing lights raced to the east over Lake Houston. Not too far behind was an Atascocita fire truck with lights flashing. I didn’t know where they were headed but earlier at the railroad crossing at FM 2100 and FM 1960 a construction crew had the right hand lane closed. Traffic was backed up on FM 2100. I hope someone didn’t try to get through the construction zone and have an accident. As I rode west on FM 1960 before the Houston Fire Station I heard a train going east. This was before the ambulance and fire truck came. I hope it wasn’t involved.
March weather continues to be unfriendly to biking. Saturday might have rain but maybe I can ride before it arrives. Later in the day a “cool” front should pass through dropping Sunday’s temperatures into the 50’s.
