Bicycling Through Atascocita – Walden – Huffman
The bike ride started out (11:43) sunny but by the time I finished (2:26) the sky was covered in almost dark clouds. As I made my way through Kingwood I hoped the rain, if it started, would wait until I got home which it did. I rode the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” without any extra streets for a total of 32.06 miles. When I stopped at the Huffman Chevron the sky was mostly cloudy with enough sun breaking through for me to sit in the shade. The SE 6 mph breeze dried my jersey as I sat eating and drinking. I was at the 19.4 mile point at the station and arrived at 1:07.
I didn’t stay too long at the station leaving at 1:31. Thanks to the SE wind the bike ride west on FM1960 went quickly helping to improve my average speed to 14.8 mph. Nothing unusual about today’s ride other than not biking yesterday. I am already up to 100 miles for November and my goal is 250 miles. I am thinking about riding the Polk County Spirit ride in Livingston on 11/12/2016 and the weather forecast looks favorable with lots of sun, a high in the mid 70’s and in the high 50’s at the start. Year to date I am at 6,916 miles. No other serious bicyclists on the route today.
I briefly thought about the Independence Ride in Wallis tomorrow but I would need to get up early and drive for over an hour. The Livingston ride is closer by a few miles but starts at 9:00 AM. I rode the Polk County Spirit Bike Ride in 2014 but last year the weather was not acceptable.
