What Do You Get When You Cross a Bicycle Rally and a Scavenger Hunt?
By Katharine Shilcutt

The 11th annual bike tour through the Heights raises money for the historic neighborhood.
Certain recurring events in the Heights are awaited with great anticipation: White Linen Night each August, late hours at the Heights Neighborhood Library every Monday and Wednesday night, the big BARC pet adoption fair the first Saturday of every month, and the annual Houston Heights Bicycle Rally and Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, October 2.
Now in its 11th year, the race raises money for the Houston Heights Association via entry fees: $20 for the 20-mile ride and scavenger hunt, and …

By RICK KELLEY

HARLINGEN — The real question Friday morning prior to the ribbon-cutting for the new bike-share system was this: Where are all the bikes?
“When we got here this morning, there were only four bikes,†said City Manager Dan Serna. “Where are the bikes? Within …

Always ready to roll on Hump Day
By Pete Radowick

There’s a modern-day affliction known as FoMO – Fear of Missing Out. This is the social angst you feel that something good is going to happen without you in attendance.
At no time does yours truly come to grips with FoMO more than on Wednesday morning. This, you see, is when the more fortunate members and friends of the Northwest Cycling Club are on their bikes chooglin’ along in the midweek Hump Day Ride. Relegated to an office tower in downtown Houston on these sunny mornings makes me green with envy.
The Hump Day Ride – the province of the retired, the flexible, the self-employed, the …

Time to try again for car-free bike lanes on Shoal Creek Blvd.?
MichaelBluejay
bicycleaustin.info
Ten years ago I tried and failed to convince Council to go with staff’s plan of having car parking on only one side of the road on Shoal Creek Blvd., with car-free bike lanes on both sides. (I was especially disappointed that I got almost no help from the local cycling community in that push, but that’s another story.) At the time, some …
Cyclefest just as good as advertised
by Bill Cullins
www.gosanangelo.com
The folks from the Permian Basin Bicycle Club (PBBA) really know how to throw a cycling party.
Start with 430 cyclists from all over Texas (and one from Ecuador), 60 volunteers, add in miles and miles of scenic roads that go up and down through the “Texas Alps” near Fort Davis and you’ve got all of the ingredients needed for something memorable called Cyclefest.
Simply put, Cyclefest turned out to be everything that was promised on the event …
