Superb Fall Weather Plus a Dog Sprint Bike Ride
Beautiful fall like weather on today’s bike ride on the “New Caney – Roman Forest Loop – Valley Ranch” route. I stopped after entering Tavola and took these pictures.
I didn’t realize I was so serious when I took the selfie. The sun was bright and I was concentrating on getting everything in the shot. This was around 13.4 miles into what ended up being a 38.19 mile long ride. This is what is behind the sign.
After riding the loop through Roman Forest I turned south along I-69 and then Valley Ranch Parkway to stop at the Porter Stripes for a rest break. Sitting in the shade by the pumps was very pleasant with the north breeze moving through. The large flag in the middle of Valley Ranch Parkway sagged and billowed as the wind stopped and started. My sweat dried quickly and watching the puffs of clouds high in the blue sky was relaxing. I bought a large Gatorade to go with the snack crackers to refuel for the 11+ miles to the end of the ride. I arrived at Stripes at 1:49 and stayed about 25 minutes. My Elemnt screen when I arrived and the weather screenshot while I was resting.
The ride from Stripes to the end went through Briar Tree on Briar Berry Lane. As I passed from Briar Berry Lane onto W. Hammond Drive a big black dog appeared out of the overgrown brush coming from a home on my right. He was barking as he ran on the grass on the right side of the road. Thankfully the wind was at my back so I didn’t have to fight that as I sped up. the stayed even with me but around 200 feet from where he started running he slowed down and stopped. A couple of years ago I had a similar surprise at this spot. I remember it and try to check the area as I ride by to keep from being surprised. It paid off today.
The ride finished at 3:10. I put the bike away and looked at the sky to take in the almost fall like weather. Just a few weeks ago we experienced 5 or 6 days at 100 degrees. I think the hurricane is influencing our weather for now and I like it.
