Bike Ride Passing Through the Spot A Bicyclist Died
Yesterday a bicyclist was killed on FM1960 in Huffman. My ride today took me to Huffman on the “May Park Community Center – Huffman” route. My wife was concerned that I was biking in the area but I assured her I have biked there many times. Traffic has always been considerate of me and I haven’t had any problems. I passed through the accident area after I left the Huffman Chevron on the way back to Kingwood. I looked for evidence of the tragedy but I could find anything. The bicyclist has not been identified as I write this. I prayed for the driver and the family of the biker.
According to a weather blog I follow the peak of summer is this week in our area. The weather is delivering with heat indexes at 110+ and sunny days. The light wind doesn’t offer much relief in the shade. It was 97 degrees when I got home after biking and the heat index was 111. Thanks to the light breeze I was able to ride at 18 to 19 mph during the ride on FM1960 to the Liberty County line. What it looked like at the Liberty County line.
I believe the 704 on the FM1960 road sign pole is the miles from the sign to the west most point in Texas. My riding in Liberty County was short, I crossed the line and rode to the west bound shoulder back into Harris County. From this point I rode west turning onto Huffman – Eastgate Raod to ride by Hargrave High School on the way to the May Community Center on Wolf Road. I stopped there to refill my water bottle for the 4 mile ride to the Huffman Chevron where I took a rest break.
Arriving at the Chevron station at 1:33 after biking 27.8 miles out of the total 39.14 miles I rode today. The weather while I was resting shows the heat and lack of a breeze.
The Chevron was still out of the blue PowerAde fountain drink so I sat down in the shade and drank ice water from my bottle while I eating the Clif bar and snack crackers I brought with me. As I was sitting there a few people commented on how hot it was to be biking. I agreed but said it was better when I was moving. I left the station about 2:10 to finish the ride to Kingwood. I finished the ride at 2:56 relieved to go inside where it was cooler.
I started the ride later than I wanted to (11:25) because technology continued to fail. My home weather station is still off line, Quicken cannot download from my back because the bank’s computer system had a problem yesterday and trying to talk to someone took a long time on hold. Tomorrow must be better.
