Barton Creek bike bridges on the cusp of opening

The Barton Creek bike bridges project, a decade in the making and an unprecedented commitment to cycling in Austin, will open in stages between now and the end of the year.
The northern end of the project, which includes surface trails on each side of Loop 360 at South MoPac Boulevard and two short bridges over Loop 360, could open informally within a week after workers put up temporary chain-link fences for safety, said Chad Crager, the city of AustinÓ³ division manager over urban trails. By October, after permanent railings are in place, that $3 million northern piece will be fully open. …

FLOWER MOUND, Texas (BRAIN) × Longtime Texas retailer Chad Plumlee has opened his third store, called Giant Lakeside. The new location will serve the market around the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including the communities of Flower Mound, Grapevine, and Coppell.

Brownsville wins competitive federal grant for buses, bike lane

Better buses and an innovative bike lane are coming to Brownsville, which was the only winner in Texas of a highly competitive transportation grant program that federal officials announced Friday.
The proposal by the city of Brownsville means $10 million of the $23.8 million project will come from federal coffers. The Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program, managed by the U.S. Department of Transportation, awards federal dollars for projects across the country, spanning road, transit, freight rail, bicycle and maritime improvements. …
2 riding in Bangs bike race to honor fallen Texas officers
