College cyclists set sights on East Texas as cross-country journey continues

TYLER, TX (KLTV) – A group of college students biking their way across the country have their sights set on East Texas.
Cyclists from the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity recently crossed into Texas as they pedal from California to Washington D.C., raising awareness and more than $500,000 for ability programs. The sun beating down and their feet, tired from over 1,500 miles of pedaling, does not keep the southern route Journey of Hope riders from their busy schedule.

When Jan Gierlach was a third grader at Hough Street Elementary in Barrington, he listened to fellow Barrington resident Bob Lee talk about his 6,500-mile bicycle ride from Florida to Maine in 2007 during a classroom presentation.
As the founder of Ride for 3 Reasons Lee, who was 65 years old at the time, was raising funds for cancer and ALS research, and hospice education during his cross-country journey. …

Bryan public meetings scheduled this week for bicycle, sidewalk plans

The City of Bryan is revising its Thoroughfare, Bicycle, and Sidewalk Plans as part of the 2016 Comprehensive Plan update. Citizen input is being sought to ensure that the proposed plans address the needs of the community.

Vietnam vet is riding by bike from Texas to Washington, D.C.
There are 58,272 names on the Vietnam Veterans Wall in Washington, D.C., according to www.thewall-usa.com.
Del Francis, 74, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, located about 100 miles east of Dallas, said the wall is missing 74 names.
Those 74 names were his shipmates on the USS Frank E. Evans, a World War II era destroyer, that sank some 200 miles off the coast of Vietnam on June 3, 1969.

‘Texas 4,000′ Bicyclists Ride Through St. Cloud [VIDEO]

WAITE PARK — Through the heat and the rain nearly two dozen bicyclists made their way from Austin, Texas to St. Cloud on their way to Alaska last (Monday) night.
