Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood Bike Ride
Choosing today’s route was a work in process as I left home at 12:26. I rode to the north but I didn’t make the route choice until I reach Roman Forest Blvd. I made the Tavola loop and rode back to I-69/US59. Before taking the Tavola loop I thought about riding into Roman Forest but stuck with my thought to ride to SH 242 and then back south. I named this route “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” because some parts of it are different from the “SH242 – Valley Ranch” route I used earlier this year. I biked 34.71 miles today, a little longer than I thought it would be.
The turn south at SH 242 was back into the wind. While the wind was form the south at 9 mph I was able to keep my speed at 16 to 17 mph and improved my average speed to 15+ mph. I was able to maintain that until I stopped at the Star Stop Exxon in Porter. I got there at 2:10 and needed a rest stop to replenish fluid and energy for the 10 miles to home. The last time I stopped there I had to leave quickly to outrun rain coming from the north. Today there was no rain but lots of heat. The Elemnt screen when I arrived and the IAH airport weather while I was eating and resting.
I left the Star Stop around 2:45 riding south on the service road to Kingwood Drive. I was able to maintain the 15.1 mph average speed to the u-turn at Kingwood Drive. From that point the stops increase as I enter Kings Manor and Kingwood. I arrived back home at 3:31 ready to go inside to cooler air. The weather at home when I got home.
