Later Start on “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman Extended” Bike Ride
A late start on today’s ride leaving home at 11:58. By then the heat arrived but I could tell the humidity was lower and I was drying off as I moved through the air. I mixed up the streets as I left Kingwood on the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman Extended” route which allow me to not cross my route the last two miles to home. Not a big deal but I like to not use the same streets so the GPS map looks nice. I rode 36.52 miles bumping July miles to just short of 75.
The ride went well. As I was riding east over Lake Houston on FM1960 I saw another biker on the west bound shoulder about midway over the lake. He had his bike turned upside down and was working on the rear tire. He had a black MTM Qhubeka kit from last year on. I rode across FM1960 and pulled up to him asking if he had what he needed. He said it was okay as traffic was passing. It was noisy and I said it was tough to fix a flat on the causeway but he said it wasn’t bad. I replied and rode back across the lanes to continue going east. That was the only biker I saw today.
I took a rest break at the my favorite Chevron station in Huffman. My Elemnt screen when I arrived and the weather while I was resting.
The shade and moving breeze dried my jersey some. My arms were not producing sweat as much as when the humidity is higher. I drank PowerAde to wash down a Clif bar and a whole wheat fruit bar. I left the station about 2:10 riding north on FM2100 for the extended portion of the route. Riding home the wind was more of problem than getting to Huffman but I improved my average speed with the help of not stopping at traffic lights. I got back home at 3:05 ready for the A/C and a shower.
Installing the new cleats did the trick. The right shoe now snaps into locked position just like the left one. It does require more effort now that the cleat is properly engaged. I think the worn out cleats were almost 3 years old.
Sunday’s weather looks like a repeat of today’s. I plan on biking after church. I watched stage 1 of the TdF this morning. I was planning on watching it on NBCSports Live but my Dish subscription does not carry over to the TdF streaming though I have watched other races. I switched to ITV4 and watched at the YMCA as my niece was at swim practice. Mark Cavendish took the sprint like the old days.
