Colby Lewis on getting hit in the head with a 110 MPH ball and how biking has helped him pitch better

Texas Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis joined the Ben and Skin Show on 105.3 KRLD-FM The Fan recently to discuss all things baseball. Here are some highlights.
Getting hit in the head:
Lewis: It squared me up good. Rattled my eyes a little bit and then I saw Rougie looking up and I looked up and saw the ball and that’s all I could think about was Rougie finishing the play and getting the out. But it really didn’t feel like… I was just kind of sore. It still kind of is sore to the touch. But yeah it didn’t knock me out, didn’t do nothing. I got pretty fortunate. The good Lord was looking out for me, that’s for sure.

Day 49: Navasota – Sam Huston National Forest: The ants go marching
Thursday May 26, 2016, 40 miles (64 km) – Total so far: 1,731 miles (2,786 km)
When I went to make breakfast this morning I found hundreds of ants crawling in and out of one of my panniers. They decided they wanted pb&j sandwiches, and I sadly had to throw out the pb&j. This was quite unfortunate as the jar was brand new and I got one of those nifty combo jars; I finally realize why they make those- for backpackers and cyclists who want less weight and more space of course! I had to take out everything and shake it/blow it of ants. Lost a few good pieces of bread, too peppered with ants to try and salvage. I got four ant bites in this process, those little guys can pack quite a sting! I took my time biking today, unsure how far I might go. When I reached Anderson the topography really started to change, there were more trees and more green, more birds and vines. I think I’m starting to enter into that religious/conservative part of the country you here so much about. When I biked into Richard the first thing I saw was a picture of Jesus and a pro-life sign, followed by …
Day 50: Sam Huston – Shepherd: Have you ever seen the rain?
Friday May 27, 2016, 45 miles (72 km) – Total so far: 1,776 miles (2,858 km)
I’m currently in an cabin at Shepherd’s Sanctuary, and I’m sooo glad I’m here because this is the craziest thunderstorm I’ve ever experienced. Buckets of water are pouring down and the thunder is cracking right overhead and it looks like someone turned on a strobe light outside. The wind is loudly whooshing about and I’m pretty sure lightening and thunder is literally right above the roof over my head. I’d be completely screwed if I were in my tent. Luckily, I made cookies in the kitchen here earlier and I feel warm and relatively safe 🙂 Earlier, on my bike ride I swear I was almost hit by lightening. I couldn’t see anything but brightness for a millisecond and within that brightness there was an even brighter spot in the center as I heard thunder crack just above. Of course I’m looking up what happens when people get struck by lightening now, man they get some gnarly and beautiful scars (if they live). Aside from potentially dying, the ride was surprisingly enjoyable, it was a …

Day 31: Marathon
Saturday May 7, 2016, 124 km (77 miles) – Total so far: 1,401 km (871 miles)
I packed up as the sun was rising from my emergency camp site that I chose to escape the storm. The day would be slightly shorter than had I just tried it all in one day, but it was still a good distance to cover. A good distance, and worse without many places that I knew for sure had water.
I started to make my way over to the visitor’s center, which was on the way out. I still needed to pay the entry fee, since I was unable to do so the previous days since the other visitor center was closed. …
