Day 39 – 46: Austin rest week: A Beer-lovin’ Vegan’s review of Austin
Tuesday May 17, 2016, 25 miles (40 km) – Total so far: 1,641 miles (2,641 km)
Austin was amazing for what it was, that being a city. While it had everything I could dream a city would: pedestrian and bike trails, vegan food, lots of breweries and unique bars, art, and a body of water; it was still lacking something. It was like the city was trying too hard. Perhaps I didn’t meet the right people. Also, the vegan food was damn expensive, so thank you Tyler for picking up half the tabs! I stayed at the HI Hostel in Austin the first two nights, which was super nice and I’d totally recommend it. The first day I was in Austin I did the usual touristy stuff, saw the Capitol, graffiti hill, and walked through the university- it’s huge and obviously gets a lot of funding! The bike path along the river is …

Navasota, Tx to The Woodlands, Tx: Closer by the day
Tuesday May 24, 2016, 54 miles (87 km) – Total so far: 782 miles (1,259 km)
After a restful night at the VFW post 4006 in Navasota I was off to an early start down state hiway 105 towards The Woodlands. After a few miles I stopped for a good breakfast to fuel the day. In Plantersville I stopped for a Power Aid and a snack while waiting a small rain shower to pass by. After a troublesome ride thru …
The Woodlands, Tx to Kingwood, TX: The final leg
Thursday May 26, 2016, 30 miles (48 km) – Total so far: 812 miles (1,307 km)
This is it the destination is just a few miles away I’m excited about finishing but disappointed that I missed my goal of one thousand miles due to a few sick days. An early start to beat the heat and try to out run the afternoon showers that are on their way, all doctored up with Off to Keep the mozzies away and I’m off to Kingwood and the end of my adventure. Today was a great ride with many miles through the woods and along Spring Creek what great bike trails in this part of Texas. The trail ended by dumping me into the traffic on FM 1960 West and then the …

ATD is striking out with bike lane proposals this year
by owlman
bicycleaustin.info
As part of regularly scheduled street maintenance, Austin Transportation Department often proposes safety/mobility improvements like new bike lanes. Since the street will be re-striped anyway these improvements are usually free or very cheap.
Unfortunately, the last three proposals have been significantly scaled back due to drivers’ and residents’ concerns.
Mesa
Proposed: Restrict parking on one side, separate bike/parking on the other side, so bike lanes will be free from parked cars.
Revised: Widen bike lanes but …
Flooding At North Texas Lakes Keeps Some Areas Of Parks Closed
By Jack Fink
dfw.cbslocal.com
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – James Murphy oversees recreation at Grapevine Lake and six other lakes under control of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
“It makes me sick to see it like this,†says Murphy.
Murrell Park may not look great now, but it’s better than last year.
The courtesy boat dock and light pole were completely under water last year. And these picnic tables, parking spaces, and one of the boat ramps are still under water. …
