Adams St. Dog Not in Sight Bike Ride
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I rode on Adams Street today while exiting Kingwood on the “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road” route. The last time I had a big dog chase and I wasn’t looking forward to repeat that. Turning onto Adams Street from Woodridge Forest I shift to a higher gear to build up speed but I pedaled slower so as to not be tired when I neared the dog chase spot. I kept an eye out as I moved along but when I passed the yard the dog was missing. Now I will keep watch the next several times riding on Adams Street but maybe the chase was a rare thing.
This was the first ride since Tuesday with early rain yesterday and the overcast sky and mid 60’s temperature just not pulling me outside. I did wax the chain on my bike but that was it as far as biking. Today’s weather was a little better with mostly cloudy skies, 75 to 78 degrees and a brisk NW wind at 11 mph with 15 mph gusts. The wind wasn’t too bad riding to New Caney but on FM1485 it was a full headwind. I was glad to turn left onto Gene Campbell Road (or Blvd depending on which sign I choose) with the wind moving to my right side and behind when I got to FM1314. On FM1314 I got the nice tailwind pushing me to the Cumberland Crossing Shell where I took a break. This is my Garmin screen when I got there.
Before leaving on the ride at 12:34 I saw there was a firmware update for the 520, version 5.30. I installed it hoping this would fix the problem I had on Tuesday. I tested connecting with my phone a couple of times before getting dressed to leave. I am happy to report the 520 performed as it should without any major issues. There was a minor one while I was riding on FM1314. A car drove by and the 520 issued a phone disconnect message and soon as the car was about 100 feet away a phone connected message popped up. To be safe I also used the Ride With GPS app on my phone in case the 520 burped during the ride. I am having a problem not getting alerts on the 520 when I get a phone call or text message. I have that turned on but I did not see them. With both the 520 and Ride With GPS app uploading ride data I had to delete the duplicates which is better than no data.
At the Cumberland Crossing Shell I bought some Gatorade and sat down on the sidewalk in front of the store to eat and rest. I figured stopping here would delay me enough to miss the Briar Tree school traffic (it did) the Kings Manor school as well. While I was at the Shell station I took these weather screen shots.
The weather was cooler than the forecast called for (80 degrees) making me glad I wore a short sleeve and long sleeve jersey with my shorts. The sun was behind the clouds more than it was peeking through. I finished eating and got back on the Stradalli riding to Old Sorters Road and then Briar Tree. In Oakhurst I forgot Rock Creek St. was closed for road repairs and rode the sidewalk to get around that. I got back home at 3:38 riding 36.85 miles boosting my April miles to 352. The goal is 772 miles. I am almost half way there. Tomorrow’s ride could moved past the half way point. The weather should be better than today.
