Sweating it out at LOVE Cycling Studio
by Pam LeBlanc fitness.blog.austin360.com
When Nicki Minaj squared off against Iggy Azalea during a spin class at Love Cycling Studio recently, my leg muscles came out the clear cut winners.
I dropped by the studio Monday for a 45-minute session set to music by the two pop singers. Instructors Morgan Randolph and Katy Freshour kept me from collapsing in a heap off my stationary bike, and when I finished, co-owner Maria Groten handed me a eucalyptus-spritzed towel. …

Didn’t really take photos for Days 3-9 but did take some on Day 10. PJ and I needed to return a ladder to a neighbor and fellow ham radio operator in a near by subdivision. So here are the photos of day 10 which included hauling a 16 foot ladder and my son.

One hundred and fifty veterans biked into town Monday.
Their stop in College Station marked one of many pit stops on the route of the Texas Challenge, a 490-mile, six-day rehabilitative ride from Houston to Fort Worth. The challenge is part of the UnitedHealthcare Ride 2 Recovery program, which started in 2008 to provide injured veterans from all backgrounds with resources to cope with the experiences they may face. …

WALDEN RIDE: The cowboys and their steeds

54 miles

With the prospect of rain, all the riders carried their rain gear as we rode out of camp. It was 75 degrees when we woke this morning, so the idea of hot rain gear was not appealing.
It sprinkled on us just a bit, but there was a good tailwind and a nice road, so life was good. The ride was only 54 miles, so we took our time and stopped for a bit in nearly every little town. We didn’t want to …

Luba: riding through the park
Tuesday April 12, 2016, 43 miles (69 km) – Total so far: 1,711 miles (2,754 km)
Today’s route was mostly through the state parks, pretty and quiet. Unfortunately, though, there were a lot of trees dead because of the fires. Upon park entrance we were warned that the road was quite challenging. We dismissed it, thinking that after California mountains and Texas Hill Country it would be easy for us. Well, I have to admit now that it was, indeed, challenging. We also had to turn back at some point and make a detour of 3 miles due to the disappearance of a bridge on our planned route. We had to ride again in the evening to have dinner, because restaurants near us were closed. …

Day 44 – Fort Davis to Van Horn, Texas: Mountain Goats
Tuesday April 12, 2016, 81 miles (130 km) – Total so far: 2,003 miles (3,224 km)
Last night as we were going into our tent, we heard loud animal screams and grunting from just across the dry creek, about 50 feet away. I shined my flash light and saw 7 Javalinas fighting or making some kind of reckus in the dark. Many scattered but a few stayed over there as we went in our tent considering other options. Javalinas look like small wild boars but supposedly they are vegetarian. You wouldn’t know it from this large tooth at their snout for digging. Deb a bit scared stayed awake awhile hearing footsteps but fell asleep after the grunting went away. …
