Atascocita – Walden Bike Ride
Today’s ride was shorter than most routes. I rode the “Atascocita – Walden” staying west of Lake Houston. I had a time limitation and needed to be home by 2:30. I left home at 12:23 wearing a warmer setup with shorts, long and short sleeve jerseys and regular gloves. The temperature was in the mid 70’s with a mostly cloudy sky. The was brisk from the south at 11 mph with 17 mph gusts (airport readings). Riding south was challenging and the chill in the wind kept me thinking maybe two long sleeve jerseys would have been better. The sun kept popping out from behind the clouds just enough to keep me from getting to chilled. It was a relief to make the turn back to the north in Walden. The wind was not helping.
I got back home at 2:16 to find the temperature at 79 degrees and the wind variable at 7 mph but 20 mph gusts. No wonder it was so hard to pedal into the wind. On Kings River Drive I passed two other bikers going the opposite direction. We waved. They were hardier than me because they wore short sleeve jerseys.
February miles are up to 426, 80 over my 346 mile goal. It is possible I will ride tomorrow (February 29th). Should I count those miles against February’s goal? I don’t know if I will.
The weather at my home weather station at the end of the ride.
