Organizers try to boost Austin participation in BP MS 150 bike ride
by Pam LeBlanc fitness.blog.austin360.com
Every spring, about 13,000 cyclists pedal from Houston to Austin as part of the BP MS 150 bike ride.
The strange thing? Only about 900 of those cyclists – less than 7 percent – come from Austin, even though the ride ends here with a big bash near the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.
“People see it as a Houston event,†says Gena Hyde, regional director of communications for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which puts on the …

I attended the District E City of Houston Capital Improvement meeting tonight lead by Councilman Dave Martin. One of the presentations was about the Houston Bike Plan. I visited with two ladies at the information table before the meeting and after. During the question and answer time I asked about why the plan does not incorporate the CenterPoint utility easements. During the last legislative session a bill was passed limiting CenterPoint’s liability for trails on the easements. The Parks department director said the plan is still being developed and the easements will be utilized. These are important for north/south trails.
