Leg Warmers Stayed Home on this Bike Ride
The ride started out in the sun but I started to doubt my decision to not wear leg warmers. This was at 12:17 which is a little earlier than I have started this month. I set out on the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. I wanted to ride 31+ miles and I ended up biking 33.8 miles. I increased January’s mileage to 196 leaving 63 miles to reach my 259 mile goal for the month.
Even though I left the leg warmers home I wore regular gloves, shorts, short sleeve jersey, long sleeve jersey and windbreaker jacket. I was warm but when I stopped at the Huffman Chevron for a quick break I unzipped my jacket the chill from the wind blowing against my wet jerseys made me find a place out of the wind. I was 22.5 miles into the ride at that point and it was 1:52 when took the break. After eating a Kashi Trail Mix bar and miniature donuts I refilled my water bottle and headed back to Kingwood. The weather screenshots at the Chevron station:
Riding west over Lake Houston on FM1960 the wind was very cool coming off the water. My bare legs wanted to reach the west shore and get among the houses.
Today’s ride was the longest of the year so far. A comparison of the last 4 rides from Garmin Connect.
The weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday include rain but not a high percentage. It might be warm enough to ride with temperatures just below 70 degrees. So far the weather has been good enough for me to ride more miles this year (196) than January 2015 (141 miles). I have 12 days to ride 63 miles. Maybe the weather will cooperate!
