Bluetooth Works on this Bike Ride
Today’s ride on the “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route was the longest one so far this year at 33.46 miles. This pushed January’s miles up to 162.41 leaving 97 miles to reach my goal of 259 miles in January. The weather was almost perfect with a clear sky, 73 degrees and a 2.7 mph westerly breeze. This will begin to change later tonight and tomorrow if the weather forecast holds. Not for the better though.
The problem with my Garmin Edge 520 connecting with my Nexus 6P phone appears to be solved. During the ride not one “phone disconnected” message. Live Track worked like it was supposed to and the ride data uploaded automatically at the end of the ride. It took some severe steps to make this happen. I reset the 520 to factory settings, wiping out the profiles I created. I powered off my phone to reset the Bluetooth connection. I deleted the pairing on the phone. Then I tried to pair the 520 and Nexus 6P 6 or 7 times before I got the Bluetooth icon to appear on the 520’s notification area. I powered the 520 off to see if the pairing went away but it was still there. Before today’s ride I checked again by turning the 520 on. I got a message that it was connected to the phone and the Bluetooth icon was there. I checked in the Settings and it showed paired there as well. When I started to leave for the garage I started Live Track on my phone and I got a message on the 520 that Live Track had started. I saw at least two posts on the Garmin Edge 520 Forum with other people having problems with Bluetooth. A common point was software version 3.10. It worked before this revision but stopped after updating to 3.10. I felt good about the Bluetooth working because as I was putting my shoes on the 520 signaled that I received a text message on my phone. This hasn’t happened with my Nexus 6P phone. It did work on my Nexus 6 phone in December, before updating to version 3.10.
I made a stop at the Huffman Chevron at 2:08 at 21.66 miles into the ride. While I was there a bunch of wreckers and Harris County Precinct 3 deputy constables were working a one vehicle crash in the southeast corner of the FM2100 and FM1960 intersection. It looked like the Ford Explorer jumped the curb and hit a utility pole. I didn’t see anyone hurt but the ambulance left when the wrecker started to remove the Ford Explorer. I didn’t stay too long at the Chevron station. While I was there I took these screenshots of the weather.
Standing in the sun I was warm with my lighter outfit. I wore shorts, a long sleeve jersey and windbreaker jacket. Half finger gloves were perfect today.
