Getting Ready for Thanksgiving Bike Ride
The weather warmed up from yesterday to 75 degrees although the sky was overcast. the wind at the George Bush IAH airport was 15 mph from the SE so riding at time required some huge effort. I decided to ride the “Oakhurst – Cumberland – Valley Ranch” route to get some variety before Thanksgiving Day. Maybe the riding and skipping lunch will counteract the extra eating tomorrow.
Traffic was moderate and all the schools and college were closed as I rode by them. All the other bicyclists either stayed home or went before I came along. I left home at 12:11 and returned at 2:46.
The hardest places to ride today due to the wind: going southeast on FM1314 to Porter and the southbound US59/I-69 service road from Valley Ranch to Northpark Drive. On these sections I rode into the teeth of the wind.
I may have overdressed with a long sleeve jersey and a short sleeve jersey but I was comfortable but sweaty. No leg warmers on this ride which I wore yesterday.
Today was number 17 on the “Oakhurst – Cumberland – Valley Ranch” route. The Grand Parkway FM1314 overpass work still has FM1314 lanes reduced. The parkway is supposed to open by the end of the year. Will they make it?
I stopped at the Shell station at Cumberland Crossing and took these screenshots of the weather. The wind speed is quite different from the airport but I can vouch that it wasn’t easy riding.
My goal for 2015 is only 16 miles away; I am at 6484 YTD.
