Cycling for Change seeks participants
by Luis Carlos Lopez , El Paso Times      www.elpasotimes.com
Cycling for Change officials said participation this year is low and more riders are needed to participate in the Oct. 18 event at Gallegos Park in Canutillo.
The catch?
Those who participate will be donating money to help victims of domestic violence.
” We are not getting enough cyclists,” said volunteer Carmen Contreras.
The third annual cycling event on Oct. 18 at Gallegos Park in Canutillo will start at 8 a.m. Those who participate can choose from one of three …
Visited Houston and checked out the Houston Bicycle Museum. Highly recommend!
by tedmars      www.reddit.com
So many beautiful bikes on display from every time period and every type. Run by this sweet older lady who runs the oldest used bike store in town. She’s very knowledgeable and answered any and all questions we had. Sounds like they could really use local support though. I said she should check out the Houston Bike section on Reddit and she said “What’s that?” …
Denison denied funding for Katy Trail, plans to reapply
By William C. Wadsack      heralddemocrat.com
Denison recently learned it won’t be receiving a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation this year for its planned Katy Trail project, but the city is undeterred in its plans for the trail and will reapply for the grant next year.
“We’re disappointed we didn’t get the funding, but certainly aren’t going to give up,†City Manager Jud Rex said. “We heard enough from the community that there is a lot of interest in this and health and wellness is certainly a priority for the city.â€
Denison applied for the grant through TxDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program, which would have provided 80 percent of the $2.5 million estimated budget for the 2.64 miles of trail along the right-of-way of the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. The route Denison plans to construct will run from Highway 691 near …
Bike plan aims to improve traffic congestion, quality of life in El Paso
by Stephanie Toone | American City and County      americancityandcounty.com
El Paso, Texas, city officials are in the planning stages of updating their 33-year-old bike plan to offer residents more innovative bike facilities, enhance connectivity for cyclists through the city and decrease traffic on the city’s roadways.
El Pasoans had their first opportunity to offer input on what the bike plan should include during Saturday’s Bike Plan Community Outreach Kick-Off in downtown El Paso. More than 40,000 citizens attended the three-day long festival, where bike plan consultants were on hand with bikeway treatments and sample bike plan facility markings that were …

A Roller Coaster Day of Up And Down Hills: Bracketville to CampWood
Sunday October 11, 2015
We started the morning off with a sit down breakfast at the 3 Moons restaurant. Our journey today took us 50 miles from Brackettville to Camp Wood.
The landscape was grazing land, ranches and hunting preserves. The terrain started as a climb then the road turned into a rollercoaster grade of ups and downs. We continued to deal with a very rough ride due to the shoulder and road surface being a chip seal with large pebble stones.
Passed by a very large solar farm. Solar panels extended for what seemed like a mile in length, and likely could supply the whole town of Brackettville.
Saw at least a half dozen creeks and streams. They were all dry with no sign of water. When it rains however, they likely carry a lot of water because you always see water gauges alongside of the shoulder that read up to 5 foot in depth. And there are numerous roadside signs warning that road …
Three Sisters Gave Us A Workout: Campwood to Vanderpoole
Monday October 12, 2015
We got an early start today. The temperature was predicted for a high of 93 degrees and the area was called the Hill Country. Motor cyclist come from all over the USA to ride this stretch of road between Camp Wood and Vanderpool. It contains 3 very large mountain climbs called the Three Sisters and provides some beautiful vistas overlooking mountain sides and valleys. The down hills were exhilarating but the climbs and switch backs were a real challenge on a bike.
Saw another Tarantula crossing the road. They sure are big and very ugly. Also came across a horse that got loose from its field. I scared it into a gallop across the road in front of me as I passed on by.
We stopped in the town of Leaky for lunch. The Town had several Biker bars. We stopped at one for a …

We utilized the kitchen at the Checkpoint this morning and made up a pot of coffee to go with our crackers and peanut butter. It was a lean breakfast but we rarely eat anything more than that. …
