AUSTIN — Popular amateur cyclist Brendan Sharpe won’t be riding his bike anytime soon after he was hit by a driver on the Lamar Boulevard Bridge and left for dead.
Sharpe is recovering from a broken back, broken nose and broken sternum. He has to wear a body brace and a nose guard. He’s had two surgeries to repair his eye and nose, and he will need one more to replace his two front teeth. …

Celina Hernandez pedaled down Boca Chica Boulevard on Sunday, doing her best to keep up with the rest of the pack. Her focus was disrupted when her tire got caught in one of the grooves, causing her to bounce out and lose control.
Hernandez, who works for the BrownÂsville Neighbors EmerÂgency Center, was aiming to complete the 60-mile ride in the Raúl Alcalá Bike Ride Challenge.

Having spent much of the summer in far away (read: cooler) lands, I decided to celebrate my return to Austin and it’s sweltering summer days with a nice evening in the air conditioned bull pen of City Hall for the Bicycle Advisory Council meeting last week. While I will spare you much of the round-and-round discussion that filled much of this month’s two-hour meeting, I can tell you of a few things of particular interest:
