A Hint of Chocolate Chip Chia Bike Ride
The hot weather continues today. I don’t mind the hot temperature as long as I am moving. sometimes I think it could like riding in a convection oven. The sky had a few small clouds allowing the sun full rein. Wind was different: from the SW at 8 mph with 20 mph gusts according to the George Bush Airport weather station. The screenshot I took at Huffman during my rest stop was not quite as hot or windy.
Riding the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route for the 22nd time this year I logged 33.57 miles to move the total for July to 642 miles, 192 miles short of my 834 mile goal. I was thinking of riding a longer route but I got a late start (11:28) due to watching stage 18 of the Tour. It ends on Sunday and I can leave earlier starting Monday for longer rides if I need to the miles to reach my goal. If I average 33 miles for 6 rides before the end of July I will reach my goal. With the weather forecast showing hot and dry for the next 10 days and 8 riding days left I think I will be okay.
Nobody else was foolish enough to be out riding along the route today. I did enjoy the shade under the pump canopy at the Chevron station. I tied to listen to a podcast but every loud pickup truck in east Harris county decided to drive by on FM1960. The ice cold Powerade hit the spot to cool me down. I am trying a different Kashi granola bar this week: Crunchy Granola & Seed bars with Chocolate Chip Chia. They taste good with the hint of chocolate and the crunchiness. I was getting burned out on thr Kashi Trail Mix bars. The rest stop came at 21.3 miles into the ride.
