Bike Upgrades
by Ray Garza      rgvcycling.com
Recently I’ve made some changes to my bike. My trusty 2013 Roubaix Apex Comp has been replaced with an updated version. I am now a proud owner of a 2015 Specialized Roubaix SL4 Comp Ultegra Di2. I saw this bike being displayed at my favorite local bike shop (LBS), Bicycle World RGV in McAllen and immediately loved the paint job. Finally Specialized splashes color on their bikes. I am tired of the all white, all black, or shades of grey. To me those are lazy, unimaginative paint jobs. This bike also had electronic shifting too! I knew I had to get it for my Freddyness (is that a real word?) in me. Before I could, I would need to sell my existing bike.
My bike had 9200 solid miles on it plus my first century ride (see Wildflower Centurion), so it has a special place in my heart. It’s all stock except for the Richie handle bar, Crank Brothers Candy pedals and …

Obscure trails frame the latest battle near White Rock Lake
By CLAIRE Z. CARDONA and ROY APPLETONÂ Â Â Â Â Â www.dallasnews.com
The trails are difficult to find if you don’t know where to look.
They wind across a sloping patch of city park land, through 42 acres of shaded woods and open fields thick these days with vegetation.
Narrow and rutted, grassy and subtle, the paths help raccoons, bobcats and other wildlife roam. People, too.
In recent weeks, the woodlands of Flag Pole Hill have become the focus of another clash over change near White Rock Lake.
A resident of the White Rock Valley neighborhood wanted to add a trail there. His idea attracted public …
Another Real Ale Ride is in the Books
by djcurtin      bicyclesportshop.wordpress.com
Thanks to everyone that came to this year’s Real Ale Ride! We had another record turnout and the weather proved to be just about right. Considering all the rain we had before and after the ride, we won’t complain about the winds that we faced as the ride finished up at Real Ale Brewing!
We’ve got a few interesting stats on the ride we thought we’d share with you. first and foremost, our ride beneficiaries, Friends of Blanco State Park and Bike Austin each will receive $5,000.00 thanks to the tremendous number of riders we had register for this year’s ride. We’re also happy to report that thanks to our friends at Real Ale we’re committing an additional …
The Collin Classic 2015
by Johnny Guzman      bicyclepointofview.blogspot.com
I have been riding regularly for the past few months in preparation for the Collin Classic Bicycle Rally, held annually in Mckinney, Texas. The Collin Classic has three route choices including a metric century of about 64 miles. Being that I had to head out of town almost immediately after the ride, I opted for the 46 mile distance. I averaged 18.5 miles an hour for the whole ride, finishing in 2:42 and so far it is the fastest average speed that I have logged for the distance that I rode. This year I bought a new road bike from Bikes Direct to try to set a …
