Bicyclist struck, killed by car in southwest Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) — Police say a bicyclist was struck and killed by a car in southwest Houston.
Video from Skyeye HD showed a body lying on the South Post Oak feeder road to the South Loop East. A damaged bicycle was near the body.
There was also a heavily damaged vehicle still at the scene.
Police confirm the bicyclist was struck by the car. The investigation is ongoing.

Beaumont woman takes part in cross-country bike ride

University of Texas students on a 4,300 mile bicycle ride made a stop in Beaumont Thursday, spreading their message of hope, knowledge and charity in the fight against cancer.
The cycling team is called the Texas 4000, and one of its members, Layla Nejad, is a Beaumont native.

Driver in bicyclist’s death gets probation

An investigator works at the scene of an accident in which bicylist Devan Coulter Smith was killed in September 2012 on West Avenue north of Silver Sands Drive.
Cases involving motorists charged with killing pedestrians or bicyclists in Bexar County have had a wide range of results in recent years — from grand jury no-bills to years-long prison sentences — and this week, a man who was a Churchill High School student when he struck and killed a bicyclist was granted deferred adjudication probation for the crime.

Members of the Ozark team, one of three groups comprising the Texas 4,000 team made their way through Beaumont Thursday.
