Man Bicycles Across the U.S. to Help Raise Money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital

A bicyclist is riding 15,000 miles to help raise money for the children of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. On Saturday, he made a stop in the Permian Basin. He has spent his last few days bicycling through West Texas spreading the word about his cause to raise money for St. Jude’s and families of children with cancer who can’t afford the high cost of medical care.
Asking only for quarters and spare change, the journey Bernie Buffone refers to as Kittenrun2, is set to raise over 11 million quarters.

Can you hear Santa’s busy elves at work….join us on a casual ride departing from Santa’s shop in Arlington. The route hopefully captures a different perspective of this side of town as it travels on roads not so familiar to the monthly COM and Jim’s famed Country Breeze, yet connecting with a few familiar ones.  The routes of 62, 55, 42 and 35 will head southwest through Kennedale, some out to Burleson and Alvarado, then looping back just shy of Lillian.  Not too challenging cause it is Sunday and it’s the holdiay season. Mean routes are for green ugly Grinches (and Saturdays.)

I haven’t gotten in a lot of biking lately. Not only have I been caught up in the end of the semester crunch at the university, but my road bike has been acting up.
A week ago, I found myself unable to shift from the small chainring to the big one. I had to abandon a ride and get home, although that was the same ride where I discovered the broken spoke. I finally got the bike into the shop on Wednesday, where the mechanic listened to my shifting complaint and examined the bike. The chain is okay, since it’s fairly new. But he didn’t like the look of the big chainring.
