Slow to Leave Due to a Technology Glitch
After many days of cold and some wet I was able to get on my MTB and ride today. Around 10:30 I was outside and noticed the weather warming up and some sun. I thought it might just warm up enough to ride. By 1:00 it was 66 degrees so I got dressed and got my things together. Then the technology glitch arrived. I got a new cell phone (One Plus One) and I couldn’t get it to pair with my Garmin Edge 510. I tried about everything I knew to get the Bluetooth airwaves to talk to each other. After about 15 minutes it worked. I don’t know what I did but I was able to get out the door at 1:29.
The plan all along was to ride the Kingwood greenbelt trails on my MTB and with the late start I was glad to get out and ride. By now the sun was in and out of some clouds and on the trails it felt cooler than when I was in the sun. Fortunately I wore my cool weather cloths: leg warmers, short sleeve jersey, long sleeve jersey, windbreaker jacket, half finger gloves and shorts. This was just about right. I wasn’t too hot nor too cool. One time when I stopped for several minutes trying to change the screen on the Garmin I got a chill from the sweat and wind. Once I restarted it wasn’t too long before I was warm again.
There weren’t too many people on the trails but I did pass another decked out MTB rider along Mills Branch Drive. We kind of grunted at each other as we passed because he came around a corner pretty quick and there wasn’t much time to exchange words.
I rode in an opposite direction on the trails most of the time. Again this gives a different perspective from the other direction. One hill I usually ride down I had to shift down a gear and slowly pedal up. I ended up riding 17.13 miles. Since I was on my MTB the average speed was no where near my road bike level but the ride is different.
After my last ride (November 10th) I was maybe too optimistic about reaching my year’s goal of 6500 miles. With 11 days left in November and some more winter weather on the way I am up to 6281 miles. This leaves 219 more to reach that goal. Only riding 4 times this month it could be difficult to hit 200 miles for November. I am at 110 as of now. There is some warm weather in the forecast for Sunday and Monday so there is hope.
