Do You Shave Your Legs Yet?
Bike Noob
You should. At least, if you’re a racer guy type of rider.
Even since I began road cycling, I’ve been reading of the debate over leg shaving. To me, the arguments in favor never seemed compelling enough. Band-Aids will come off easier after a crash. It’s more aerodynamic (Yeah, right). It’s easier to slide tights or leg warmers over them when it’s chilly outside.
Then, I learned that some friends were shaving their legs. Heck, even one of our fine guest posters gave in to the craze. Bosh, says I.
But another friend pointed me to a video posted by the folks over at Specialized bikes. They actually conducted experiments in a…

Exercise is helping me cope during my dad’s illness
By Pam LeBlanc      fitness.blog.austin360.com
I’ve always known that exercise kept me steady. But the past two weeks have been some of the hardest of my life, and my bike, my running shoes and swim practice have gotten me through it.
My dad is dying of non-smoker’s lung cancer.
He was diagnosed last December. After almost nine months of chemotherapy, doctors told him two weeks ago it wasn’t doing any good. They gave him about a month to live.
This sounds awful, and in many ways it is. My heart is broken. But as crappy as these days have been, they’ve also been magical.
We’ve made the most of the time he has left, talking about…

We have created this space to help build community on the East Side.
“We are excited to have a new space that enables us continue to make bike dreams come true. More importantly…
Bike Safety for Kids
by Bill Cullens      Team San Angelo
With public schools back in session, it’s time to remind kids, parents and teachers about some important safety practices for kids who ride their bicycles to school.
Riding bikes to school is a healthy fitness activity that should be encouraged if kids ride safely and do not put themselves in harm’s way due to the risk of collisions with a motor vehicle or falls on their bicycle.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, approximately 400 children and adolescents die each year in the United States due to bicycle-related accidents with another 400,000 ending up in emergency rooms because of bike injuries.
Almost all of those accidents are avoidable if children are taught to ride in a safe manner.
The Safe Routes to School National Partnership (http://saferoutespartnership.org) has…
