Cyclists Ride to Conquer the Coast (Video)

CORPUS CHRISTI – Cyclists from all around took part in the 11th Annual Conquer the Coast Saturday morning.
Hundreds of cyclists chose between 10, 25 or 65 mile bike rides that went from Whataburger Field all the way to Port Aransas and back.
Cyclists, like Nan Borden, say these events remind drivers they have to share the road. “Corpus Christi drivers don’t realize that when you are biking you just can’t just stop or there might be something in the way and you have to come out. They have to give us three to four feet and they don’t…

A strong team of Texans helps crown crit champions at Masters Nationals.
Y’all would have been proud of the team of Texans who showed up for the crit races at Masters Nationals in Ogden, Utah. From the racers themselves to the friends and families along for the proverbial ride, there was a real sense of camaraderie from the Lone Star State.
The collective group of racers were not teammates per se; they didn’t all wear the same kit, race for the same shop, or always train together. No, this was a smash-up group of cyclists who over the years have competed against each other in one way or another, be it in the Thursday nighters, during weekend training rides, or at the many races throughout the state each year. This ‘team’ included decades-long racers, national champions, guys who…

Bike Noob
Only two other B riders showed up for our club ride Sunday, and we decided to head to Creedmoor. This staple of our Sunday routes had been forgotten lately; in fact, I hadn’t ridden it since June. The others were looking forward to the ride, too.
After not riding a route for awhile, some changes are bound to crop up. Most of the ones we ran into had to do with road construction. Our main way east out of our neighborhood narrows to a two-lane, unstriped, country-style road for a short stretch. Then, at a T-intersection, we turn left, and then pick up that road again at the…
Chiefs team up on bicycle trails
By Christina R. Garza Staff Writer      www.valleymorningstar.com
The Brownsville Police and Fire departments routinely work together to serve the community, but recently Fire Chief Lenny Perez and Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez have teamed up to work on their fitness while taking advantage of Brownsville’s bicycle trails.
Both men said they began cycling during childhood but returned to the sport for its various health benefits.
Rodriguez said he started riding about three years ago with an informal cycling group made up of baby boomers who jokingly refer to themselves as “Rugrats.â€
According to Rodriguez, the group routinely rides on…
