Dallas’ historic preservation staff recommends denying a planned bike-share location at Fair Park
By Robert Wilonsky      cityhallblog.dallasnews.com
The red box marks the spot where Park and Recreation Department wants to plant a bike-share station at Fair Park. (From docs prepared for Landmark Commission)
In March, after much discussion and debate, the Dallas City Council OK’d spending $125,000 to launch a bike-share program at Fair Park. It was supposed to debut in “late May or early June,†but it’s been delayed until Date To Be Determined for various reasons, chief among them: The State Fair of Texas is now only weeks away, and the bikes would be parked during the fair, so, really, there’s no rush. …
Peeking over the Edge: Training with Power
by Ray Garza      rgvcycling.com
Like many cyclists, I measure my cycling progression by either one or two metrics: distance and/or speed. I remember when I used do 10 miles per day every day and shoot for 50 miles per week. Seemed like every little rolling hill was a major leg burner and the wind! Oh my gosh, the wind! Going south on 107 was a blast but turning around to face the wind made me wonder if I could ride the distant seven miles back to the car. Well, I did make it back to car and that’s how I continued to measure my progress. Distance was the way to go. Eventually, speed started to creep in my metrics but that was later.
My first foray into something different was with the Powerhouse system from iBike. This was an innovative system to do structured intervals while cycling. A combination of iPhone case and the Powerhouse application that, when combined together along with your…

Corpus Christi bike race bookends the end of summer
If you’re a fan and/or follower of Texas bicycle road rides, there’s a good chance Conquer the Coast, the 10-/25-/65-mile ride that happens annually along the Texas Coast is on your radar. The ride happens September 20, only two days before the official last day of summer, and not a bad time to plan a trip to the coast.
Conquer the Coast has been rolling along the Coastal Bend for over a decade and benefits a number of concerns, including Corpus Christi Chamber Foundation, Bikes for Kids, and more. The ride affords even casual bikers beautiful vistas along the city’s bay side, and hardcore…
Lake Murray Road Trip Weekend, October 10-12
Greater Dallas Bicyclists
Join other club members for a weekend road trip to Lake Murray State Park in southern Oklahoma. The riding in this part of rural Oklahoma is scenic and traffic is light. The club has reserved two cabins for use by club members on Friday and Saturday nights. This is also a great ride even if you can’t spend the weekend. You can spend one night or even drive up for the day. The drive takes about 90 minutes from Dallas. This trip is open to club members and their guests.
Two rides are tentatively planned for Saturday (10/11). The shorter route goes to the Gene Autry Museum in the tiny southern Oklahoma town of… Gene Autry – 40-45 miles. The longer ride continues on from the museum over…
The Last Saturday Of August Rolling My Wheels In Fort Worth’s Gateway Park Before Town Talk Treasure Hunting
Durango Texas
I rolled my wheels in Gateway Park on Thursday because I had had myself such a mighty fine time doing so on Tuesday and the precipitation predictors were predicting precipitation on Friday, which I figured if the predicted precipitation did precipitate that it would render the Gateway Park trails into being a muddy mess.
Well, the precipitation did precipitate just as predicted Friday morning.
With today being my regularly scheduled Saturday Town Talk visit which…
Triple Threat
Team San Angelo
Almost 14,000 cyclists turned out for last week’s Hotter N’ Hell event in Wichita Falls to ride the 100-mile bike tour or do other weekend events such as the shorter cycling rides, trail run, mountain bike race or USA Cycling road races.
The Hotter N’ Hell 100 is the largest century ride in the United States, and for many cyclists just completing the 100-mile ride is a capstone achievement.
Some participants, however, want to test themselves even more, and 166 individuals took on the
That’s a total of 124 miles of cycling and running in the August temperatures that exceeded 100 degrees at times.
San Angelo’s Marlon Miller and Mertzon’s Brian Tillman were among 166 Triple Threat racers who successfully completed the…
