Not So Easy Bike Ride
It started out like I would have to work on an easy ride. The legs just didn’t want to push the pedals easily. I rode to Huffman and because it is Sunday I shortened the route to 29.79 miles. Until I got to Huffman the wind seemed to be pushing against me no matter which direction I rode. After an 11 minute stop at the Huffman Chevron (the real name is JJ’s Chevron) I headed west on FM1960. For some reason now the legs had more power so I shifted into a higher gear and picked up the speed. The wind was more cooperative now and I rode at 18 to 20 mph until I got into the residential streets in Atascocita and Kingwood. Overall I averaged 15.6 mph which is much higher than I thought it would be based on the first 18.5 miles to Huffman. Intervals 4 and 5 were at the higher average speed to overcome my slower intervals before.
The weather continues to be mild for August. 83 degrees (72% humidity) when I rolled out at 11:54 and 89 (62% humidity) when I returned at 2:17. The sky was mostly cloudy and I felt cool when the sun was behind the clouds. That wind I battled to Huffman was really not that bad coming from the north at 4 mph. Monday the forecast says 89 degrees and partly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain. I should be able to ride then.
Only one other biker was out today. We exchanged waves at the west end of the Lake Houston Causeway on FM1960. I was riding west and he was going east.
Mileage wrap up:
- 217.7 miles for the week
- 101.01 miles for August (744 miles to go for August)
- 4313 miles for the year
