Getting Out the Door Was Hard
Getting started biking this morning was a battle with several things slowing me down. First I was on the phone with AT&T ironing out a U-Verse pricing issue and then working with a customer on some table cloths. Once I got those under control I rolled out the driveway at 10:29. The weather continues to be bike favorable: mostly cloudy sky, 85 degrees, 71% humidity and a very light breeze.
I went over a couple of route options in my mind since I got up and decided to ride the New Caney – Roman Forest – Forest Colony one. I exited Kingwood via the Adams St. way weaving around Kingwood to add a mile or so to the distance. Check the route for more details. When I got to Roman Forest Blvd. I looked in on Lake Tavola. The concrete apron around the base of the retaining wall is in place and they are working on the tower at the back of the lake. On Adams St. I had to stop for some utility work. I hope the new asphalt is not torn up so quickly.
The south US 59 service road is still one lane approaching the Grand Parkway construction at Community Drive. Today there wasn’t anything going on behind the barriers so I rode there to be out of the traffic. The concrete work is happening a little west of the service road on the approaching lanes. After going through this area I went through Forest Colony rather than Valley Ranch and onto Valley Ranch Parkway. From there I rode to the Stripes station on FM1314. I took a break there to eat and drink while I cooled off some. I used a number of paper towels to soak up some sweat. The large flag at the entrance to Valley Ranch Parkway was hanging limp which meant any breeze that I enjoyed was from riding.
Leaving Stripes I headed through Briar Tree, Oakhurst and Kingwood Place. Home is about 11 miles from Stripes. When I arrived at Stripes the parking and pump area was empty but when I left it was full.
Riding into my driveway at 1:18 the weather was hot: 93 degrees, 40% humidity, mostly cloudy sky and no breeze. The ride distance was 33.14 miles at 15.7 mph average speed.
