Biking & Walking in San Antonio
by Charles Marohn      www.strongtowns.org
From my Facebook feed where I have been posting photos of San Antonio:
Hey Chuck, Can you please tell me your thoughts about this sign. I would like to Share those thoughts with my friends on the following FB Groups. San Antonio Cycling Community, San Antonio Cycling, Alamo City Bicycle Crew, and Bicycle San Antonio.
You asked.
First, in any functional place, this sign is redundant. This is a handful of blocks from the core downtown of San Antonio. It is two blocks from UTSA. Why would there need to be a…

Bike Out Hunger Makes Stop in Brownwood, Raises Awareness and Funds for Hunger Relief
Written by Lisa Tipton      www.brownwoodnews.com
Forty cyclists rode through Brownwood on Wednesday, May 7, for the Fifth Annual Bike Out Hunger, raising money and awareness for hunger needs through the Texas Baptist Hunger Offering.
This year’s route reaches across more than 400 miles from Boerne to Wichita Falls. The team arrived in Brownwood on Wednesday afternoon.
Local riders include Pastor Rodney McGlothlin, Debbie McGlothlin, Jeremy Johnson and Greg Church. Church stated that this was the longest ride he had ever participated in and although it was challenging, it was very enjoyable.
“It was fun, really tough in a couple of spots. Goldthwaite to Zephyr seemed like nothing but one big hill after another,†explained Church. “ It was a challenging ride as it was the…

Dallas has a new bicycle coordinator who’s very eager to roll out the bike plan (from 2011)
By Robert Wilonsky      cityhallblog.dallasnews.com
The city of Dallas has been without a bicycle coordinator for almost a year following the June adios of Max Kalhammer, who came to Dallas from D.C. in 2009 and stayed around just long enough to help launch the 2011 Dallas Bike Plan and then grow frustrated with his inability to roll out more than a few miles of bike lanes, most in or around downtown. But fret not, cyclists, as the position has been filled.
One week ago today Ashley Haire strapped on her (completely unnecessary?) helmet and went to work at 1500 Marilla, following stints as a project manager with the Texas Department of Transportation and…
