That Demoralizing Wind
Bike Noob
I really enjoyed my ride to the air show several days ago, except for the stiff headwind I found myself fighting on the way back. I hate wind even worse than I hate hills. Actually, I don’t hate hills — I just don’t do very well with them. But the wind is another story.
Part of my problem with the wind is my size. People in my bike club, even riders much faster than me, love to draft me on group rides, because I do such a great job of shielding them from the…

Night Ride
Full Moon Rides are held at San Angelo State Park and start at 8pm at Burkett Trailhead. Depending on the group, we will go anywhere from 9 miles to 18 miles.
Depending on who shows up is how we dictate how the ride will go. If there are newbies, then we will keep it to a couple of hours on fairly easy trails. If it is experienced riders, we will do the same trails as we normally do in daylight and ride the…
Wendell 100
San Angelo Bicycle Association
Saturday, May 3, 2014 twenty two riders took the Wendell 100 challenge – a 100k group ride in San Angelo. With advertising simply by word of mouth and a few Facebook posts, the Wendell 100 doubled in size again this year. The route was definitely the toughest so far and included several rolling hills and 2 category 4 climbs. As you can imagine with 42 tires and tubes rolling for 3-4 hours, we had a few flats along the way. If you just did the math, you may be wondering why there were only 42 tires and 22 riders… that’s right, we had a tandem join the fun.
Don’t worry if you missed it. The riders have…

Hygge sighting: The little idea that built Denmark pops up in Austin
Michael Andersen, Green Lane Project staff writer
Would you describe riding a bicycle on a large street in the middle of a major city as “cozy”?
It’s safe to say that most Americans would choose a different word. But that’s the one that sprang to mind for Molly Purdin, a young web interface designer who commutes by bike in Austin, during an interview this spring about the 4th Street protected bike lane. Check out this 22-second clip: …
Full Lap – 2014 Prayer Mountain Pedal – Big Cedar Mountain Bike Race
Turnin’ Cranks
My first lap of the Big Cedar race. Early on I was feeling good but the climbs really sapped my energy and by the time I got to the Brick Climb, I was toast and blown up. I went on to finish in disappointing 10th place but still had a ton of fun. This is a…
Today I Had Some Near Gateway Park Misses Before Learning About The 4th Annual Fort Worth Fat Tire Festival Sunday June 8
Durango Texas
Today, after I rolled my wheels for miles on Gateway Park’s mountain bike trails, I stopped at the Information Sign at the trailhead because I had detected it had changed when I rolled past it on my way to the trailhead.
One of the new bits of information on the Information Sign informed me as to what happened between last Tuesday and last Sunday which had so greatly improved the mountain bike trails.
As in, Saturday there was a Gateway Park Trail Workday, with the trailblazers back in…
BikeDFW and BFR Bike To Work Day Energizer Station – 2014
Bike Friendly Richardson
Mark your calendars! Friday, May 16, 2014 is The League of American Cyclists‘ National Bike To Work Day. IF there is ever a day to ride to work, make it this day. Think about the positive statement we’ll be making as cyclists, safely using an alternate form of transportation.
Based on our great success in Richardson 2 years ago, which grew to 5 stations around Dallas last year, Bike Friendly Richardson, BikeDFW, DART and NCTCOG have partnered up to…
A Suit Designed for Biking to Work and Taking Meetings
By Belinda Lanks      www.businessweek.com
Biking to work in most U.S. cities presents a long list of roadblocks topped, at least outside Portland, by the lack of designated bike lanes and the risk of injury because of missing infrastructure. Then there are the fashion hazards involved. What’s comfortable to wear for cycling—think spandex shorts—isn’t appropriate for the office.
“The biggest common complaint [cyclists] have is that they have to change their clothes once they get to work,†says Vaughn Brown, whose San Francisco-based company, Parker Dusseau, attempts to address that bugaboo with the Commuter Suit, combining the look of a well-tailored two-piece with the stretch of workout clothes. The inspiration, says Brown, was to make “clothing that allowed me to be…
