Packed up and ready to go; Ride 2 Recovery prep
Veronica M. Landry Multimedia Manager/Producer
FORT BLISS — Ready to go! My Specialized Ruby bike is in several pieces, packed up, and ready for travel.
A special thanks to Marc Cattapan, Adaptive Sports Director with the Fort Bliss Warrior Transition Unit, who was kind enough to take take on the task.
Thank goodness there’s a team of mechanics waiting for us at the Ride 2 Recovery registration on Sunday! They’re “at the ready” to help put bikes together for the challenge participants and tackle all mechanical issues that could occur (flat tires, etc.). I’m not a big fan of changing my own tires, so that works well!
Two days to go until registration. I taught my final indoor cycling class early this…

No Thunderstorm Impeded Biking Gateway Park Today Before Town Talking
durangotexas.blogspot.com
Apparently I misunderstood the forecast for today’s weather. I thought that more than once I heard that thunderstorms were scheduled to rumble in some time after midnight, along with rain.
With an electric wet forecast I figured I would not be swimming or getting any hot tub hydrotherapy this morning, let alone a bike ride in the noon time frame.
I figured wrong. No thunder, no rain, at least so…

Fayetteville SR – the Mens Cat 3 Winner’s Report
by Vince Dietsch      texasbikeracing.com
Background:
A long, long time ago (let’s just say longer than some of my competitors from last weekend have been alive), I was an aspiring young Houston triathlete who had just finished an inconspicuous college running career at the University of Houston. Bob McCowen, the owner of Southwest Schwinn (aka Southwest Cyclery) and all-around great guy, helped me get my start in biking at the time. A couple years later, his son James McCowen told me about a 2-day stage race that he was directing for SWCC. “You should give it a tryâ€, he said, “it’s a time-based stage race with a pretty long time trial – you would do pretty goodâ€.
Fast forward to a year ago, after dropping 2 sports, I finally took his sage advice (I have never been a quick learner). The Fayetteville Stage Race is a race I’ve done for 2 years in a row now. In last year’s race, my stage win on Sunday’s stage in the Mens 3/4 field moved me into 5th overall and more…
