Texas Bicycling Daily News Roundup January 24th
Cycling pedals money into Cove
Wendy Sledd | Herald staff writer
Wheels turned and bicycle spokes sparkled in the sunlight Saturday at the annual Megan Babb Memorial Classic. But other shining moments occurred when visitors who came to Cove for the race spent their money in the city.
Betty Price, Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce president, said the city benefitted financially from the event, both directly and indirectly.
“About 300 riders attended. We had 18 rooms spending an average of $89 per night, plus $50 for…

Race Across Texas
www.spinistry.com
This is a work in progress as details are developed.
(1/23/14) Today is kind of our birthday. 1/23/10 was our very first event, the Red River Riot. Spinistry was around a few months before that, but we hadn’t found our identity yet. The rains that fell that day just as the race started pretty much clamped down our Long, Hard & Dirty mantra going forward.
We’ve always said that we wanted to give people memories and have stories to share. The last couple of months have really driven home to us our responsibilities along those lines. It’s on us to make sure that the events we put on are worth your time and money. We have an obligation to provide unique events that aren’t for everyone but allow your accomplishments to be appreciated by all.
This means that sometimes we have to go outside our own comfort zone and push our limits a bit. Today we are announcing a new Spinistry event for later this year. It’s definitely not for everyone, and we have…
A Long Day in the Saddle
www.turnincranks.com
84.6 Miles
That’s a new distance PR for me. Not since my Durango to Moab day 2 50 miler ride (http://www.strava.com/activities/20542419) have I put in this many miles. And even then, it was only 50 miles.
Very rarely to I get time to put in basically a whole day on the bike. As it turns out the wife and kids were out of town this weekend, which afforded me the luxury of such a ride.
gran-fondo-1-v1That and the Strava Gran Fondo Challenge kept staring me in the face every day that I uploaded my ride data to Strava.
With the wife and kids away, I began thinking I could go for a nice long ride, shooting for a possible century ride. I briefly tried to see if there…

Austin B-Cycle reports usage stats for first month

Hypothesis: freezing rain and sleet make streets slippery
An Old Guy On Two Wheels
Test:Â Ride around on said streets after winter storm.
Results: Hypothesis confirmed. Slippery.
IMG_1293Not the end of the world that everybody was expecting. I-35 is open, although at about 1% of it’s usual volume. Starbucks was open (clerk was probably wondering if he should call the authorities about an escaped mental patient riding his bike). McDonalds, gas stations and various other retail establishments were open.
Light traffic. Most people behaving…
