Houstonians rally for hit-and-run victim as killer is sought
By Carol Christian         www.chron.com
A makeshift memorial where Houston bicyclist Chelsea Norman, 24, was struck by a hit-and-run driver, Norman died from injuries suffered in a weekend hit-and-run accident and was pronounced dead Wednesday at Memorial Hermann Hospital Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, in Houston. The accident happened about 10:20 p.m. Dec. 1 in the 1600 block of Waugh Drive.
As Houston police investigate a hit-and-run accident that claimed a bicyclist’s life, an impromptu memorial to the young woman has appeared in Montrose where a driver left her mortally injured in the street.
Chelsea Norman, 24, left her job at Whole Foods Market, 705 Waugh Drive, at 10:17 p.m. Dec. 1 and a couple minutes later was struck by an unknown vehicle in the 1600 block of Waugh Drive.
An ambulance took her to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she was pronounced dead Dec. 4, authorities said.
In memory of Norman, store employees are planning a walk and ride on Dec. 8 from Whole Foods to her nearby apartment on Jackson Street, which they’re calling “complete Chelsea’s ride,” said store team leader Elizabeth Brown.
“We’re gathering in the parking lot at 10 p.m. Sunday and will start the ride at 10:17,” she said. “Here at Whole Foods we’re a very tight-knit family. When…
Dallas living, trail kudos and trail access
by Summit      forums.mtbr.com
What’s up yall – just wanted to drop in and give some props on your local trails. I grew up in Dallas and promptly moved to CA for school and have been bouncing around the west awhile now but have had stints in CO, CA, OH and, for the bast 13 years, Utah. (And no, I’m not LDS.) Come back once or twice a year to visit family, and all we do is eat, drink and shop – pretty much what you do in Dallas, right?
Finally had a connection for a mountain bike to ride – an old Spec. Rockhopper with v-brakes, an ancient Manitou fork with the little rubber fork covers, and a mile-long 110?mm stem. Hahaha. But beggars can’t be…

Missouri City kicks off ‘Show Me City Ride of Pride’
By Zach Haverkamp      www.yourhoustonnews.com
Missouri City officials, State Senator Rodney Ellis and dozens of citizen bicyclists teamed up Sunday morning, Dec. 1, for the debut of the “Show Me City Ride of Pride,†an 8.55-mile route that looped from Missouri City Community Park down to Olympia Parkway, up to Cartwright Road and back again. Though Sunday’s Ride of Pride was the Missouri City’s first, its organizers intend to institutionalize the event as a city tradition.
A total of 44 cyclists participated in the ride, their only entry fee being a toy donation for the city’s annual toy drive in support of Toys for Tots. The route – planned in part local bicycle store and event sponsor Sugar Cycles – took the cyclists on a cruise past Flamingo Island at…

Okay, so we’ve established that scheduling an ATX100K race creates extreme weather events. We are the rain-makers, the cold-bringers; we are the ATX100K. Currently the “Rocky 50” is striving to become the “Rainy 50” and that leads directly to the “Frozen Muddy 50” and a drivetrain rebuild. And so…. The Rocky 50 date is cancelled – again.
BUT … This gave us at ATX100K an idea.
Why should we, in this age of Garmin, STRAVA, and the…

Austin leads Texas cities in shift away from vehicle use
by Michael Theis, Digital Editor- Austin Business Journal
Mirroring trends seen elsewhere in the nation, Texans living in urban areas are driving less, according to a report from think tank TexPIRG.
The report’s authors say the decreased driving trend means that policymakers should be shifting infrastructure funding priorities away from road projects and into alternative modes of transportation.
