Old Asphalt Gone
I took yesterday off but I am back on the road bike today. The route took me south and then east to Huffman. I mixed up the streets some before I left Kingwood to add a couple of miles to the route. I could’ve left sooner than 12:42 but I was watching the rain on the radar move around the area and I wanted to watch 2 episodes of the Marty Stuart Show I had on the DVR. My wife is not a big fan so I watch Marty when she is away. One of his guests was Johnny Rivers who was a rock’n roll singer from way back.
Other than a lot of clouds the weather was warm at 77 degrees so my short sleeve and long sleeve jerseys were probably a little more than I needed but I was comfortable. The wind started off at 15 mph but by the time I finished at 3:27 it slowed down to 10.4 mph. Around the 8 mile point riding out of Kingwood Greens Village near W. Lake Houston Parkway I ran into some light rain. Looking up at the clouds I thought it might not last long so I kept riding. By the the I got across the bridge on W. Lake Houston Parkway the rain became a light drizzle before stopping. The streets were wet through Atascocita until I neared FM1960 and from there on the road was dry. A couple of times I thought I felt a stray rain drop but I could have been mistaken.
The few times I biked the route I mentioned the construction signs on FM2100. Today I was surprised to see the old asphalt gone and new asphalt down on the northbound lane from Old Atascocita Road to about Lake Houston United Methodist Church. The grooves beside the side white line are not done yet but all of the lines are painted. The road surface is nice and smooth. The construction equipment was parked off to the side so there is more work to be done. My concern about not riding on FM2100 looks to be mute.
Stopping at the Huffman Chevron to rest I watched the clouds for signs of rain. I hoped to get back home dry except for perspiration and I did manage to accomplish that. Up to stopping in Huffman my average speed was lower than I wanted mainly because of the wind but turning west I made up for the slower speeds. The route totaled 32.01 miles with a 15.6 mph average speed. November miles total 439.15. Year to date I biked 5985 miles.
If the weather forecast holds today could be the last ride for November. Between the temperature not getting above 60 and rain several days I may stay indoors since I am a cold weather wimp.
