I should’ve dressed for the 68 instead of the 72
Today I rode the route I wanted to last Sunday. No time constraint today but I did start later than normal at 1:51PM. Several things kept me from leaving earlier, the main one helping my wife hang a couple of ribbon holders in her craft room. I also waited for the temperature to go up as well. Overnight a light cool front moved in bring a chilling breeze and a low of 57. When I left on the ride my home weather station showed 72 while Bush Intercontinental Airport was not quite so optimistic at 68. I should’ve dressed for the 68 instead of the 72. I chose shorts, short and long sleeve jerseys and regular gloves. Right after I pulled out the driveway I began to doubt my selection and could’ve turned back to change but I figured body heat would make up for the coolness. As long as I was in the sun this worked but more than a few seconds in the shade cooled me down.
This coolness partially influenced my route as I first thought of going north to New Caney. As I left Kingwood I decided today would be a good day to complete the Sunday route I abbreviated. I biked 25.24 miles today which was about right considering the windchill and the sun moving towards sunset.
Overall the roads are in good shape on this route except for the last corner on Sorters Road. I came around the bend and had to dodge a giant double pothole. Not far back from this spot a sand pit sends out large trucks and they seem to take a toll on the road. As usual up to that pothole no cars were behind me but when I had to swerve one appeared out of nowhere wanting to get around me. Fortunately I dodged the holes and stayed out of the car’s way. Not far after that on Hamblen Road railroad crossing had some construction nearby but traffic was light and no difficulties getting through it.
November mileage increased to 407.14 and 5953 miles year to date. This could turn out to be one of the higher mileage Novembers if not the highest. Links to Garmin Connect and RideWithGPS.com maps and metrics.
Tomorrow’s weather forecast calls for 73 degrees and partly cloudy skies. I should be able to ride again.
Saturday’s weather for the UC Bearcats football game took a turn down with a high of 57 and a 40% chance of rain, clearing in the afternoon. I may have to bundle up some.
