Where Was My Brain? – September 25th Bike Ride
Yesterday I wondered why I had to ride in a very small rear gear. I pedaled at a high cadence and the speed just wouldn’t get past 12 or 13 mph. Today I had the same problem but my brain kicked in and I looked down at the crank to see I was in the granny gear. Shifting up to the middle ring brought the speed I was looking for. It was probably good yesterday to pedal the small ring because I was just getting back on the bike. I don’t remember changing the gear so I never thought to check it.
Fall arrived Sunday but the temperature has not let up. Yesterday the temperature equaled the record high and today when I got back home my weather station reported 95.9 degrees and later I noticed 96.4. The almost cloudless sky allowed the sun to keep the trails hot even with the shade. I applied sunscreen before riding and glad of it. When I got up this morning my weather station showed 69 degrees.
Riding my mountain bike on the Kingwood trails felt great and the higher gearing required more effort. My left leg’s hematoma appears to be getting smaller. More physical therapy tomorrow afternoon. 12.18 miles at a 11.2 mph average speed was much better than yesterday. I remembered to tap the lap button on the Edge 510 today. I am stilling trying to figure out changing screens on the 510. I swiped the main screen and the second one came up but it took many swipes to get back to the home screen.
I have several things on my schedule tomorrow so I am not sure if I will get to ride.
