Heat Advisory! – August 6th Bike Ride
Sitting at the Stripes station on FM1314 and Valley Ranch Parkway I watched the large Texas flag standing almost straight out from the southwest wind. The wind helped to cool me off after biking 20.6 miles up to that point. I look at these rest stops as a reward for biking. While the wind cooled me while I rested I knew it would be in my face once I left there and started home until I got to Kingwood Drive and starting riding to the east.
The weather service issued a heat advisory for today:
heat indices will range from 105 to 112 over the coastal counties… and across eastern Harris and southern Liberty counties.
* Timing… this afternoon into early this evening. Highest heat indices will be likely between 3 and 6 PM.
so I wanted to get my ride finished before this hit. I started at 10:10 and finished at 12:52. The temperatures: 87 (65% humidity) and 96 (42% humidity). The southwest wind enhances the heat coming from Mexico.
My route went north to New Caney and then back south on the US59 service road to Valley Ranch. This was 32.54 miles long at a 15.4 mph average speed. August miles now: 139.72. Year to date miles: 4391. No other bicyclists sighted during my ride. They are probably working or avoiding the heat.
