Running in a Sprinkler – June 17th Bike Ride
Today’s ride brought back memories from 60 years ago when I saw some young children playing in a sprinkler in the driveway. I can remember when I was that age and running through the sprinkler to keep cool. Back where I grew up the summer temperature usually did not reach the level in the Houston area but I didn’t know any better and thought it was hot. When I got back home the temperature was 95.5 degrees under a partly cloudy sky and a 8 mph SW breeze.
To get the week of to a good start I went on the Eagle Springs – Walden – Huffman route of 34.52 miles averaging 15.5 mph. I saw the children in the sprinkler on Timber View Drive as I headed to FM1960 to ride over Lake Houston to Huffman. I noticed that the street sweeper made a pass on the east bound shoulder over Lake Houston to clean up the dead bug piles and other debris. When I got to the Cedar Landing restaurant entrance the sweeper idled there waiting to head to the next job. I did see another bicyclist at the corner of Will Clayton Parkway and Timber Forest Drive. I wanted to wave but I was accelerating through the intersection and could not take my hands off the handlebar.
The march to my June goal of 524 miles is well on its way with my miles totaling 500 and year to date standing at 2940 miles.
Tomorrow looks like another great bicycling day weather wise repeating today’s weather plus a 20% chance of rain.
