No Hiding from the Wind – May 14th Bike Ride
Another great biking day weather wise. No matter which direction I rode though it felt like a headwind was holding me back. There were a couple of exceptions though from FM2100 going west to the Lake Houston Causeway start. Once I was on the causeway there was no protection from the wind and I bogged down to 14 mph or so. The temperature ranged from 80 to 85 degrees and that pesky wind showed up as 2 mph from the ESE with 6 mph gusts. My legs reported a higher wind.
While I was headed east over Lake Houston there was another bicyclist going west. We exchanged waves.
My route went south and east through Eagle Springs, Walden at Lake Houston and on to Huffman before heading back to Kingwood. It has been a few weeks since I went this same route. The mileage turned out to be slightly more than yesterday coming at 34.56 miles at a 15.4 mph average speed. This increases May to 174.73 miles and year to date to 2268 miles.
Since my last ride over Lake Houston causeway on Sunday some government entity ran the street sweepers on the shoulders. The clean shoulders will probably not last long but I will be happy.
The love bugs are not as noticeable on this route compared to going north along US59. I did not miss them. There was one pickup at the Huffman Chevron that was really coated with bugs.
